Goal Description: Goal Objective(s): Green, farmers market using a survey form and drop box for completed forms. The section below is to be completed by City Staff. Estimated Costs: To encourage a greater citizen voice in issues affecting our local government and community, the City of Issaquah recently established N/A a robust online presence. Working in concert with the City’s recently redesigned website, our social media tools will foster a meaningful, two-way dialogue between City Hall and citizens. Combined, the website and social media tools enable the City to reach a broader audience across generations, and make information easier for the community to access. By their nature, social media tools are not designed to merely push news releases or updates to residents. Instead, the tools offer our local government the opportunity to create a sense of community, create an interactive dialogue, and encourage participation. In addition, social media enhances customer service by allowing citizens to interact with the City and ask questions by using a medium that is easy to use and familiar to them. In late April, the City started a soft launch of the following accounts: Facebook enables the City to promote activities, policies, programs, projects and events with posts, photos and videos. to get information out quickly in emergencies, to promote events and to refer followers to content at issaquahwa.gov. home for feature videos about our community, PSAs and municipal meeting videos. serves as a showcase for community amenities and highlights, such as Pickering Barn’s appeal as a wedding venue. to showcase the beauty of our community and connect with citizens that may not be easy to reach through traditional City outreach efforts. connect with citizens, and through how it influences Google’s algorithm, can better position City programs among search results. Once content is fully developed on these pages – to show their value to potential followers – Issaquah will heavily promote its new social media resources throughout the community. The launch was accompanied by the debut of an overhauled News/Social Media landing page on issaquahwa.gov. The page serves as a gateway to all of the ways the City engages with citizens and elicits feedback. In the future, the City also plans to launch accounts on Tumblr, a popular blogging platform, Flickr, a photo-sharing service, and LinkedIn, a professional networking service. Before the City launched its social media presence, staff developed a comprehensive Social Media Use Policy for the public and a handbook for staff. Though social media offers a tremendous opportunity to connect with citizens, outreach is not limited only to social media. Outreach efforts include an ongoing project to create more user surveys for City initiatives and projects. There is a survey currently under development to gauge feedback on the in-progress Bicycle & Pedestrian Action Plan. The recent developments will come alongside a redesigned and reinvigorated e-news that is sent to more than 1,000 subscribers on a regular basis. The e-news updates allow the City to emphasize the Notify Me option on issaquahwa.gov. Users can tailor their notifications based on their interests (i.e. emergency alerts, development updates, sustainability and more)
