In 2022, the State of Washington settled large scale litigation against various entities within the pharmaceutical supply chain who manuf acture, distribute, and dispense prescription opioids (the "Opioid Litigation Claims"). $215 million of the overall $518 million settlement was earmarked f or eligible Washington cities and counties that opted to join in settlement of the Opioid Litigation Claims. The City chose to participate in the settlement, with the City Council authorizing execution of the f ollowing documents last year:
In 2021, 1 FTE Behavioral Health Coordinator was hired to support the Police Department in responding to 911 calls involving Behavioral Health crises. The program started as a ref erral model, i n which police of f icers ref erred a person f or f ollow-up services af ter responding to a crisis that had a behavioral health component that was not addressed by Police at the scene.
