Following the death by exposure of a Bellevue man experiencing homelessness on Christmas Eve 2007, a core workgroup of Eastside city human services staff and non-profit agency partners has been instrumental in ensuring that individuals experiencing homelessness have a safe place to sleep in the winter. The Eastside winter shelters have evolved from a single weather-activated shelter to three shelters operating beyond winter months and serving hundreds of unduplicated guests a year.
