King County COVID-19 Funding for Housing Stability

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Lambert, District 3 awarded the City one-time County funding totaling $2,000 to support City programs that provide food assistance, rent assistance, utility assistance, mortgage assistance or other programs to help provide housing stability during COVID response and recovery.

The Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA) requires local governments to have current and approved hazard mitigation plans in order to receive disaster mitigation project funding. The plans must be updated every five years. The City of Issaquah participated with King County and other governments in the development of the original Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan (RHMP), on a limited basis with the 2009 plan update (AB 6004; Res. 2009-14), the 2015 plan update (AB 6840; Res. 2014-12) and again for the current plan update.

Following the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, people across our country – including on the steps of Issaquah City Hall – have rightfully demonstrated against racial injustice throughout our country. The Black Lives Matters demonstrators are asking that we take this moment to talk about what we need to do as a community to recognize racial bias, and make changes to eliminate the disproportionate damage it is doing to community members of color.
