2. AGENDA ITEMS
2a
Discussion: Central Issaquah District Visions and Green Necklace, (R)
Keith Niven, Development Services Director Trish Heinonen, Planning Policy Manager
Topics: Land Use
0:16 that me all right well good
0:21 evening everybody I guess I get a kick
0:22 this off Jeff Watling director of Parks
0:25 and Recreation with the city of Issaquah
0:27 thank you for letting us come back
0:29 planning policy commission and really
0:34 have a chance to follow up on some of
0:36 the work we've been doing this last
0:37 month like when we last met as a big
0:40 group February 8th a month ago tonight
0:43 we were over in the the Eagle room and
0:46 had a great Charette exercise at the end
0:50 of that meeting we were tasked with
0:52 going out going back and working further
0:55 with the park board and with other
0:57 departments and with our consultant team
0:59 and refining the green necklace and some
1:04 of the key elements of that necklace
1:05 taken the work we did on the eighth and
1:07 and doing some further work happy
1:09 tonight to come back to you to present
1:13 the work that we've done the results of
1:15 that Charette we had another Charette
1:18 exercise that we invited the public to
1:20 on the 26th of February that was part of
1:24 our park board meeting we also have done
1:27 a lot of work these last couple weeks
1:30 with planning staff from development
1:33 services department we've also brought
1:35 in some of our engineering staff from
1:38 Public Works engineering given a lot of
1:42 this desire for connectivity for the
1:44 necklace is on our right-of-way so
1:46 really getting their feedback and their
1:48 thoughts on this so I'm gonna pull this
1:53 up you're all going to get copies of
1:55 this I'm not going to read this word for
1:57 word but we'll kind of keep that up
2:00 there for the night goals tonight what
2:02 we really want to do is we come back
2:04 here is really twofold two goals first
2:08 is to provide you with this draft
2:11 document to walk through the map you'll
2:16 notice as we walk through the map you'll
2:17 see numbered 17 numbered elements those
2:21 are really key elements that that we see
2:23 that will come
2:24 and make up the necklace so talk through
2:27 some of the narrative that we've worked
2:29 on on those key elements and then a bulk
2:32 of the meeting a bulk of our time
2:33 tonight is really going to be a
2:35 conversation about character and
2:36 experience and a bit of an interactive
2:39 exercise chance for you to get up and
2:41 look at some photos look at some visuals
2:44 that are going to help us really
2:46 fine-tune what character what experience
2:50 we want with each of those 17 elements
2:53 and then also just a chance to check in
2:55 and really get a pulse from both you
2:59 planning policy commission and park
3:00 board members and the general public are
3:02 we are we headed in the right direction
3:04 does this feel like a really a
3:08 collection of a lot of a lot of thought
3:11 a lot of thought that has been from you
3:13 a lot of thought quite frankly that
3:15 dates all the way back to the original
3:16 task force that we're trying to compile
3:19 and pull in to this to this document our
3:25 outcome our desired outcome tonight is
3:28 just that is to try and get some
3:30 consensus on the map make sure we're
3:31 going the right direction and then get a
3:34 sense of visual experience one of the
3:40 questions we asked on February 8th if
3:43 you remember we had a quick little
3:45 exercise with some post-it notes where
3:47 we asked you what does success look like
3:49 what what does a successful green
3:51 necklace look like what does it do
3:54 overwhelmingly I don't I don't have it
3:56 we sort of took all of those responses
4:00 and created a Wordle and did some other
4:02 things but overwhelmingly the the core
4:05 theme that came out of that from all of
4:07 your feedback was connections
4:09 connectivity connections connection and
4:12 in various forms and and really the
4:14 second most frequent word was experience
4:18 so given that I think really the desire
4:22 of this necklace is is that is
4:26 connectivity connections through
4:28 connections that support this future
4:32 reinvestment of the central Issaquah
4:34 area but not only the central Issaquah
4:37 area
4:38 really the context for the entire city
4:41 as we've been coming off the work we've
4:43 done with the park strategic plan I
4:45 think I think that the timings been nice
4:48 for us and that as we've done this work
4:50 with you on the necklace we haven't lost
4:52 sight of the bigger picture I was going
4:56 to use my markers but since we're a
4:58 fabric I'm not going to so I'll spare
5:00 you from my armchair Landscape Architect
5:03 which I'm not but this is a map just I
5:07 think it really was a great reminder for
5:09 us that we're really dealing in
5:12 concentric circles as we start thinking
5:15 of Issaquah as we've started thinking
5:17 about what are these major movements and
5:19 and really the the essence and
5:21 priorities of the necklace we have the
5:24 central listicle area really is in the
5:25 heart of the city and I think from the
5:28 origins of the the task force work this
5:31 opportunity to frame a necklace and and
5:35 a trail system and experiences around
5:40 that and through that but also you start
5:43 to realize there's the bigger circle all
5:46 of this outer public space that is for
5:50 decades been a priority and investment
5:52 and great recreational experience that
5:55 as we're planning our park plan we're
5:59 looking into central Issaquah we're
6:01 looking at our current residents and how
6:03 do we create a park system that grows
6:05 supports the many needs that our
6:07 residents have and all the while also
6:10 connects to the outer the outer area so
6:14 as you start to see the major movements
6:17 of this map you'll start to see some
6:19 main east-west corridors through the
6:24 middle of central Issaquah area through
6:26 the upper the north and the south area
6:29 you're gonna see some major corridors
6:31 along mystic Hawk Creek and what a
6:33 amazing opportunity this is from squawk
6:36 all the way to Lake Sammamish the
6:38 opportunity we have with Tibbets Creek
6:40 and activating that this idea this
6:42 concept of another major corridor
6:45 through the middle of central Issaquah
6:48 just wanted to touch on that that is
6:51 we're talking experience here the great
6:54 thing is this isn't an isolation this is
6:56 really an experience connectivity that
6:59 we want through all of us aqua and and
7:02 has certainly been a priority for us as
7:05 we've worked this work on this exercise
7:09 so the map itself like I said and
7:14 talking about this if you if you squint
7:15 you'll start to see I know I need this
7:18 microphone don't I to talk I can't
7:20 really go over there I'll yell this is
7:24 kind of a game show microphone isn't it
7:27 but you'll see these major north-south
7:32 connections but again as we start
7:35 imagining we see them going outside of
7:39 the central squat area and then these
7:43 opportunities through the state park
7:46 down to the south the southern edge and
7:49 some type of experience that really
7:52 gives opportunity right through the
7:54 heart of the central Issaquah area
7:57 like I said mentioned earlier you'll
8:00 notice the numbers all invite Greg to
8:02 come on up and introduce the numbers and
8:04 what those are but they really represent
8:06 what we see is key elements that are
8:08 going to make this happen another thing
8:11 that we've certainly realized as we've
8:13 done this work with all of you is that
8:16 this is going to be accomplished in many
8:19 many different ways as we've brought in
8:24 and worked with Public Works engineering
8:27 staff as we've worked with our partners
8:30 and development services this is going
8:32 to be a collaborative effort a multi
8:35 departmental effort that's going to bite
8:37 by bite make this make this happen we're
8:41 hoping that this vision sets some
8:44 clarity it sets some clarity about the
8:46 big experiences that we want but we
8:49 realize that some of the details of this
8:51 are going to happen through individual
8:55 master plan efforts they're going to
8:57 happen
8:57 through corridor design Public Works
9:00 engineering is about to start on the
9:02 Gilman Boulevard corridor hopefully this
9:07 is a foundation that helps the the
9:10 details that are going to happen through
9:12 through that effort as the moratorium
9:15 gets lifted and we start looking at
9:18 development review development review is
9:20 going to be part of supporting and
9:22 making this happen so
9:24 the collaboration that's started is
9:28 really going to be essential as this
9:30 moves forward and we make this happen
9:33 another thing you'll notice as we talk
9:35 through this as you see it and as we
9:37 really get your feedback tonight is
9:39 we're really focused on the public round
9:43 we're really focused on the public
9:46 system when we start thinking about the
9:48 necklace we recognize and that's not to
9:51 discount there's going to be private
9:52 public opportunities woven within this
9:55 entire area and those are going to be
9:58 critical and those are going to be
9:59 really supportive elements but to try
10:02 and map those becomes a difficult task
10:06 and we felt like this exercise being
10:11 able to focus on really what the public
10:13 priorities are I think it sets a
10:15 priority for what we as a city should be
10:17 doing I think and as you'll see in the
10:20 language some of those private public
10:22 partnership opportunities are really
10:24 going to be supported through the urban
10:26 design manual and some of the other
10:29 supporting elements within our
10:31 development regulations so very much a
10:36 interdepartmental multi-dimensional
10:40 effort to make this to make this happen
10:42 so as you will get copies of this as
10:45 you're going to get copies of the table
10:47 I certainly welcome your feedback
10:50 throughout
10:51 tonight welcome your opportunity to jot
10:54 some notes down on that map let us know
10:57 what you think are we getting close what
10:59 might be missing what questions you
11:01 might have because hopefully we're we're
11:05 getting close to to something that's
11:07 something that feels really real we know
11:10 that this work is going to be essential
11:12 as we affect Brad if you want to lift
11:14 and wave the draft is we're in the point
11:16 of having our draft Park strategic plan
11:18 this is the missing piece this we want
11:21 to take this outcome the very same
11:23 outcome that you're going to be
11:24 utilizing with centrality for visions we
11:27 want to take that same outcome and weave
11:29 it into the park plant so now those two
11:31 documents really have a bridge bridge
11:35 between the two of them so with that I'm
11:37 going to invite Greg to come up and talk
11:39 a little bit about the key elements and
11:42 the exercise what we're doing tonight
11:44 okay
11:48 so great brought the burger partnership
11:50 Oh further further this way okay not
11:58 used to performing so so the this
12:03 evening you know we've we've taken a
12:04 couple of couple of the meetings and and
12:07 done mapping exercise and this evening
12:08 is about character we talked about that
12:10 a little bit the last time we we did a
12:13 joint meeting and and had everybody
12:15 together so this evening what we're
12:17 going to do in in just a few minutes
12:20 we're going to do some quick rearranging
12:22 the tables and we have collections of
12:25 images and we showed you a sampling of
12:28 them when we got together last time just
12:31 showing where we might be headed with
12:32 this with this idea of once the mapping
12:35 is in place it still seemed to be
12:38 missing kind of what what's the
12:40 character to help fulfill the vision so
12:42 everybody kind of has a shared idea of
12:44 what this what this green necklace means
12:46 and what all the parts mean we will
12:49 focus on the 17 identified areas on the
12:54 map Stephanie is going to go through a
12:56 little a brief description of what all
12:58 those are and what you'll get is
13:02 everyone will get a packet
13:04 it's going to have the same descriptions
13:06 or similar descriptions with Stephanie
13:08 will give and then will be able to move
13:10 around the room we've grouped them just
13:13 to kind of give some order there's not
13:15 much else to the grouping of the way we
13:17 put the images together but just to kind
13:19 of give some order and just kind of keep
13:21 things moving because we want to
13:22 complete the task and go home this
13:25 evening and everything because we we
13:26 have about 80 images for you to look at
13:29 which sounds like a lot but I think as
13:31 you go around you'll be able to look at
13:32 them and and decide if there are things
13:35 that that are character that you desire
13:37 to see in the central Issaquah area part
13:40 of the green necklace or or not if it's
13:42 something that you like you can decide
13:44 what aspect of it what key element that
13:47 that particular character image applies
13:49 to and mark it down on on this sheet and
13:53 then a comment about what you like in
13:55 that image too you might not like
13:57 everything you see in some of these
13:58 images but just even give us some notes
14:01 so we're able to know what it was in
14:03 that particular image if you just like
14:04 the image and you want it you can just
14:05 mark the number if you don't like it you
14:08 don't have to write anything down but
14:10 you can also mark it and put a red
14:12 circle and a line through it or whatever
14:13 you want to do just to show that you
14:14 didn't care for that image and go that
14:17 way when we've made it all the way
14:20 around to all the images and everything
14:22 when you've completed we want to get
14:24 these back from you and so we can
14:27 compile and and look at what the what
14:29 the priorities were for for some of the
14:32 character images and get those included
14:33 into the into the rest of into the rest
14:37 of the green necklace report I think
14:41 that gives a summary of it we'll have
14:43 Stephanie go through the descriptions so
14:47 everybody kind of has an idea of what
14:50 what the 17 elements are that we'll be
14:53 talking about and then we hand out
15:15 all right so as Greg said I'll be giving
15:19 a quick rundown of the 17 elements and
15:21 Jeff will be kind of waving his hands at
15:23 the map to show you where those elements
15:25 are and also as Greg said descriptions
15:29 partnerships and code references are
15:32 further expanded in that packet for your
15:34 reference while we're doing the
15:35 exercises evening so starting with
15:39 number 1 and this is labeled 1a and 1b
15:43 on that diagram this is a series of
15:46 major public spaces that together become
15:48 more than the sum of their parts and the
15:51 intention is that this series of spaces
15:53 can be seen as multiple entities each
15:56 within an individual character but also
15:58 is a larger connected space these spaces
16:01 might be urban plazas or they might be
16:03 more Park like and they will respond to
16:06 and cut and connect to Mall Street which
16:09 is labeled number 4 on this map and will
16:12 also connect to 12th Avenue Northwest
16:14 label number three number two shows a
16:19 potential location for the future Sound
16:21 Transit station that is to provide a
16:23 connection over or under i-90 a Street
16:26 connection will accommodate bikes
16:28 pedestrian and pedestrians and cars and
16:30 create an intuitive route extending
16:32 north to Lake Sammamish State Park in
16:34 addition to a street connection the
16:36 station will also provide an urban Plaza
16:39 and/or park space that intuitively
16:41 connects to the parks and plazas labeled
16:43 1a and 1b number 3 is 12 Avenue
16:49 Northwest this street accommodates cars
16:51 and provides a pleasant pedestrian and
16:53 bike linear urban park experience this
16:57 Street becomes a key connected piece of
16:59 the city emphasizing connections to
17:01 gilman maple and newport labelled v mall
17:06 Street labeled for Tibbets Valley Park
17:08 and views to the south
17:12 depending on the sound transit station
17:15 location 12 may also be the street
17:17 connection that continues north to Lake
17:19 Sammamish State Park
17:24 number four is Northwest mall Street the
17:28 existing block of Northwest mall Street
17:30 between 12th Avenue Northwest and SR 900
17:33 becomes a street that focuses on the
17:35 pedestrian bike experience Wall Street
17:38 continues
17:38 East potentially as a pedestrian bike
17:40 only trail connecting to trails at 7 the
17:43 Avenue Northwest and creating a major
17:45 east-west rail connection number 5
17:50 indicates what we are thinking of us and
17:53 symbiotic corridors these corridors
17:55 consist of northwest Gilman mall Street
17:58 Maple Street and Newport Way
18:00 so these are four unique streets each
18:03 serving an individual purpose the
18:05 balances and enhances the others by
18:07 providing for multiple user groups it's
18:12 it's both five and four it's so mall
18:15 street is more you'll define mall
18:20 streets character as number four but
18:22 it's also kind of described as part of
18:24 number five so Gilman is currently in
18:30 the master planning process and may
18:32 provide a linear park pedestrian and
18:34 bike experience maple serves a similar
18:36 function to Gelman but these linear park
18:39 streets may have distinct characters
18:42 mall Street is pedestrian of eccentric
18:45 potentially becoming pedestrian bike
18:47 only to the east of 12th and Newport Way
18:49 incorporates a multi-purpose path on one
18:52 side of the street that accommodates
18:54 pedestrians and bikes and a sidewalk on
18:56 the other side of the street
19:01 number six shows locations where safer
19:06 bike pedestrian travel is needed at s or
19:08 900 the circle to the south indicates a
19:11 connection between Gilman mall maple to
19:15 the SR 900 boardwalk and the Tibbets
19:17 Creek trails further study is needed for
19:20 the best location of this connecting the
19:23 circle to the north indicates the
19:24 continuation of safe bike pedestrian
19:26 passage along SR 900 at the i-90
19:29 offering number 7 shows the Tibbets
19:35 Creek Trail system this major
19:37 north-south connection will double as a
19:39 major public space for the city
19:41 providing nodes for pausing or gathering
19:43 the south connection may be contingent
19:46 on number 6 the location of the safe
19:49 bike pedestrian connection over SR 900
19:52 the major north connection is to Newport
19:55 way via anthology formerly gateway a
19:58 pension potential I 90 bike pedestrian
20:00 overpass may provide future connection
20:02 to Lake Sammamish State Park and that
20:05 brings me to number 8 which indicates
20:08 that potential I 90 bike pedestrian
20:10 overpass this location is chosen versus
20:13 the slight versus slightly to the east
20:15 because the anthology formerly gateway
20:17 development has provided a landing pad
20:19 for this future overpass number 9
20:27 indicates enhanced bike pedestrian
20:30 connections to this to the south coast
20:32 near neighborhood and number 10 presents
20:35 an intuitive bike pedestrian east-west
20:38 connection through Lake Sammamish State
20:40 Park this will serve as the intuitive
20:42 non motorized experience paralleling
20:45 Northwest Sammamish Road this connection
20:48 will link west to south cove east
20:50 toothless is aquatic trails and creek
20:53 corridor and to East Lake Sammamish
20:55 Trail this east-west connection will
20:58 provide intuitive direct connections to
21:00 Northwest Amasa road and to central as a
21:04 quad beyond
21:07 number 11 shows creation of major
21:10 entries to Lake Sammamish State Park the
21:12 promote pedestrian bike access to
21:15 entries are along northwest of Memphis
21:17 Road and one at the north end of the
21:18 creek corridor in conjunction with this
21:21 work the entire edge along Northwest
21:23 Sammamish Road needs
21:24 added pedestrian permeability which ties
21:27 into number 12 and Northwest Omaha sure
21:30 road will provide a multi-use trail and
21:32 added pedestrian permeability into the
21:34 park
21:36 number 13 indicates the formalization of
21:41 a ped bike only trail along 12th Avenue
21:43 Northeast and Lake Drive this path would
21:46 be integrated into the Future Sound
21:48 Transit connection over under i-90 so on
21:56 to number 14 this area is as this area
22:02 is developed intuitive pedestrian
22:04 connections needs to be made down to
22:06 East Lake Sammamish trail and further
22:08 west
22:09 this would include safe passage for
22:11 pedestrians and bikes across East Lake
22:13 Sammamish Parkway southeast connections
22:16 to the east and north will need study
22:17 for feasibility and be implemented where
22:19 possible number 15 is identified for a
22:24 neighborhood park and/or Plaza that
22:26 celebrates views number 16 indicates the
22:30 creek corridor this is as akua's primary
22:34 north-south corridor of parks and trails
22:35 weaving through the valley floor for the
22:37 entire length of the city this corridor
22:40 serves as the anchor and primary feature
22:42 of is across Park System this corridor
22:45 will be a mix of natural and built
22:47 environments the network is realized by
22:49 connecting parks trails and properties
22:51 along Issaquah Creek acquired for
22:54 riparian habitat conservation and
22:56 includes the Rainier Trail and the last
23:00 element identified on the map is number
23:02 17 Northwest Holly Street this is a bike
23:05 ped centric street that runs along
23:07 Issaquah Valley Elementary and
23:10 confluence park and connects Newport Way
23:12 mall Street the creek corridor and
23:14 Rainier trail and Front Street
23:18 I'm gonna hand it back over to Greg
23:21 really quick just look it up here the
23:28 packet just has the points that
23:31 stephanie has just reviewed and then if
23:33 jeff has the maps in his hand so you're
23:35 gonna have one of these close up at hand
23:37 too so you can use that we're gonna do
23:40 some quick arrange rearranging but
23:43 Before we jump in there any questions
23:46 that was a lot of information and
23:49 getting into this exercise might be
23:51 clearer once we get things set up but
23:52 yeah any questions why does it stop in
24:03 the middle of old town instead of going
24:05 down past sunset or into second okay
24:10 what what was what what is it Ron the
24:15 the trail or trails because I by the way
24:18 this you guys did an amazing job this is
24:21 such a relief to see other than the
24:22 Green pearls so so I think Trish
24:27 answered it and what I was speaking to
24:28 here is this this goes all the way to
24:31 the southern edge of the city okay we
24:36 just were not talking about that tonight
24:37 that's all right right I would just add
24:41 as you're getting the map as well again
24:43 I know this is a ton of info the
24:45 narrative that's all around the map I
24:48 think provides some great descriptions
24:50 as well so just as you are embarking on
24:53 this exercise and as you're digesting
24:56 all this information tonight
24:58 and maybe in the next day or two
25:00 certainly any comments or feedback you
25:03 have on any all that info will be
25:05 helpful as well we're ready to set up
25:12 and we have five groupings of images and
25:16 so we were going to kind of grab the
25:17 five five biggest tables we have here
25:20 and just get a little bit of space
25:22 between them and then
25:24 kind of let you guys self-police
25:26 yourselves into maybe five groups
25:28 tonight it looks like maybe three to
25:31 four per table so you have the ability
25:33 to kind of circulate around and see all
25:35 the images will go 10 to 15 minutes we
25:40 were we can go as long as 15 for each
25:42 grouping but we think maybe it'll kind
25:44 of pick up once everybody kind of starts
25:46 getting the hang of it
25:47 and the idea Gregg is to these group
25:49 everybody's gonna move to every table
25:51 eventually yes yeah so we'll rotate
25:53 about every sorry about every 10 or 15
25:55 minutes will will kind of move the
25:57 group's to the next table so he gets a
25:58 chance to see all the all the images
26:00 doesn't mean you can't you know jump to
26:02 another table if you're done and you're
26:04 ready to go but we just thought to give
26:06 it some order so we know we can get done
26:07 in the time we have this evening so okay
26:10 so when I think a couple of minutes here
26:11 just to get groupings laid out
27:00 [Music]
27:07 [Music]
27:21 [Music]
27:33 [Music]
27:53 [Music]
28:43 [Music]
28:57 [Music]
29:08 [Music]
29:36 [Music]
29:44 [Music]
30:11 [Music]
30:21 [Music]
30:30 [Music]
30:54 well
31:01 [Music]
31:12 [Music]
31:23 [Music]
31:41 [Music]
31:51 [Music]
32:08 [Music]
32:17 [Music]
32:38 [Music]
32:45 you want to give a sense of how they're
32:49 noting like the numbers individually
32:50 just running numbers down we have so on
32:53 your mind your piece of paper that we
32:56 all if all the photos are numbered
32:58 sequentially so there once you're
33:00 waiting and then on your form you'll
33:04 fill in run through 80 next to whatever
33:07 key element you think this is a big
33:09 character in this form now we have have
33:12 one option inserted tonight and that is
33:16 what yeah I look at images and I decide
33:21 what I like about them and I just keep
33:23 track of that because this is this is a
33:26 challenging exercise and we realize that
33:28 some of us have seen a lot of this
33:29 material a few times
33:31 and you're seeing it for the first time
33:33 so if you have to modify the exercise a
33:36 little bit that's what we then what we
33:39 need is for you look at images and
33:40 identify if you like them and what you
33:43 like about them so what I hear you
33:44 saying is if you if you see an image
33:47 like this jot down the number even if
33:49 you don't associate it with as one of
33:51 the 17 of key elements just let us know
33:54 because you might even say like why you
33:56 like I like it because yeah we'll know
33:59 okay we can put it for the trail where I
34:01 like the plaza will know to put it there
34:03 whatever it is about the energy supply
34:21 so I really like you know you're 25 and
34:24 I think that's a good fit for number two
34:26 on the 25
34:43 oh yeah I know
36:37 [Music]
36:50 [Music]
37:20 [Music]
40:11 [Music]
40:38 [Music]
42:05 [Music]
42:15 [Music]
42:23 [Music]
42:38 [Music]
43:00 [Music]
43:23 [Music]
43:52 [Music]
44:15 [Music]
44:22 [Music]
45:24 [Music]
47:18 [Music]
47:50 [Music]
48:57 [Music]
49:49 [Music]
50:16 [Music]
50:23 yeah
50:24 [Music]
50:32 [Music]
51:10 [Music]
52:10 [Music]
52:43 [Music]
54:14 [Music]
55:04 yeah
56:37 I was just admiring the necklace my
57:12 spellcheck in my brain
57:56 there's actually
59:08 whatever you
59:14 [Music]
1:00:08 [Music]
1:01:14 [Music]
1:01:35 [Music]
1:01:59 [Music]
1:02:18 [Music]
1:02:31 [Music]
1:02:50 [Music]
1:03:20 [Music]
1:03:33 [Music]
1:03:42 [Music]
1:03:51 [Music]
1:04:08 [Music]
1:04:49 [Music]
1:05:11 [Music]
1:05:33 [Music]
1:05:47 [Music]
1:06:00 [Music]
1:06:06 [Music]
1:06:17 [Music]
1:06:26 [Music]
1:06:36 big time check
1:06:39 where's everyone going no it's cool
1:06:51 whenever you're done you can just give
1:06:53 it to one of us
1:06:57 [Music]
1:07:14 [Music]
1:08:06 [Music]
1:08:32 [Music]
1:08:47 [Music]
1:08:56 [Music]
1:09:03 [Music]
1:09:18 [Music]
1:09:44 [Music]
1:09:57 [Music]
1:10:05 [Music]
1:10:18 [Music]
1:10:25 [Music]
1:10:44 [Music]
1:10:51 [Music]
1:11:11 it's just
1:11:29 [Music]
1:12:09 [Music]
1:12:26 [Music]
1:12:32 so do we want a huddle how do we want to
1:12:34 want to pull the chairs together or just
1:13:07 [Music]
1:13:19 [Music]
1:13:27 [Music]
1:13:36 and they're doing the big deal at the
1:13:38 trading
1:13:51 [Music]
1:13:53 but you're not
1:14:02 [Music]
1:14:11 [Music]
1:14:18 [Music]
1:14:20 not only
1:14:52 [Music]
1:15:01 [Music]
1:15:16 they stuff like that they're just you
1:15:19 know here you been to here come on in
1:15:31 [Music]
1:16:00 [Music]
1:16:06 okay so thank you everyone for
1:16:10 participating that went a lot quicker
1:16:13 and hopefully it was not painful to go
1:16:16 through and look all images we just
1:16:18 thought we would just do a quick check
1:16:20 back see if there was any feedback for
1:16:23 us any kind of thoughts when you've seen
1:16:26 all these images and how this is coming
1:16:28 together what will happen is that form
1:16:31 that you are working on will get will
1:16:34 get populated with the images and we're
1:16:36 going to go through a couple of rounds
1:16:37 to get the images right and probably
1:16:40 when it's finished there could be
1:16:41 anywhere between I you know six or ten
1:16:44 images to go with these key elements and
1:16:46 I think that was what we always felt
1:16:49 would be a successful piece to this
1:16:51 green necklace was to have the map along
1:16:54 with a series of images that everybody
1:16:57 could then have that that idea of what
1:16:59 the vision is so and be consistent with
1:17:02 it so but just thought we'd take a
1:17:04 minute since we we did kind of get
1:17:06 through that exercise a little bit
1:17:07 quicker and see if there was any
1:17:08 thoughts or anything anybody wanted to
1:17:09 share back or yeah I didn't see any
1:17:14 pedestrian crossing type things I didn't
1:17:17 see anything for the st3 although you
1:17:20 could probably put a trolley station
1:17:22 there yes and number five I had a hard
1:17:29 time with number five because it goes
1:17:31 through so much of the area that it it
1:17:35 has almost different ecosystems it goes
1:17:38 through so different even though it's
1:17:40 number five it's different attributes to
1:17:43 different parts of number four okay
1:17:45 I'm also wanted to break that out so on
1:17:48 just a couple points on Sound Transit's
1:17:50 so you did did you mark these comments
1:17:52 down for us again okay so well on that
1:17:55 one yeah I think we heard that a couple
1:17:57 of times that there weren't any images
1:17:58 that had that we're really with that it
1:18:01 was for us it's a little bit of a
1:18:03 crossing point but it's a crossing and
1:18:07 we don't know whether it's elevated or
1:18:08 goes under or the different ways or
1:18:10 actually even where it will really end
1:18:12 but I think if we make and I'm kind of
1:18:14 looking we might make find something to
1:18:17 support it at least so we have something
1:18:19 in there a graphic or image that we
1:18:23 could do that we'll do without and then
1:18:24 same with kind of the number-5 area so
1:18:28 did you you you kind of gave us the
1:18:30 comment that it's changing character
1:18:33 quite a bit
1:18:34 they didn't okay okay okay we you just
1:18:39 did there you go
1:18:40 there you go but that's yeah thank you
1:18:41 that's what we wanted to get get some
1:18:43 feedback one last thing and number ten I
1:18:46 didn't see anything that would be like
1:18:49 vendor resources if you wanted to create
1:18:52 a like for food trucks or pop tents for
1:18:56 refreshments on a hot summer day because
1:18:58 we got a volleyball events in there and
1:19:00 a lot of Tours gonna be going through
1:19:02 and there's nothing to serve those
1:19:04 tourists okay
1:19:05 nope we can great well we can get that
1:19:08 too that's good thanks just one thought
1:19:10 following up on Ron's thought about
1:19:12 sound transit might be good to have look
1:19:16 at what Sound Transit's been doing in
1:19:18 their stations that they've been
1:19:19 building and designing and see if
1:19:20 there's things that we like and don't
1:19:23 like about what they've done so far and
1:19:25 what might work best from for our
1:19:28 community from those yeah there's the
1:19:32 built ones and then the others that are
1:19:34 still planned and in construction I
1:19:36 think there's enough images to really
1:19:39 start to see what some of the character
1:19:41 might be and if there's you know they're
1:19:43 all pretty unique conditions I'm not
1:19:47 sure if there's like to think through if
1:19:49 there's one that's kind of like on this
1:19:50 interstate a lot of them have been and a
1:19:54 lot of them have been so urban yeah you
1:19:59 know they're just starting to work their
1:20:00 way out yeah - a little further away so
1:20:04 probably feels a little different than
1:20:06 anything that's been yeah and yet but
1:20:09 yeah that's that's the the interesting
1:20:12 thing with what we tried to do was use
1:20:15 something you you recognized some of the
1:20:16 exhibits you know we borrowed from some
1:20:18 of your design guy whose urban design
1:20:21 some other publications you had and put
1:20:24 those out to kind of see you know
1:20:26 still fit and if they do that's great
1:20:28 but then we populate with images from
1:20:30 other places and my that might be one
1:20:31 thing to do is is is we could do a
1:20:34 little exploration on maybe transit
1:20:37 stations that aren't just Sound Transit
1:20:39 here local because you I think it's a
1:20:41 good point that they're herbal and we
1:20:43 might be able to find some that that
1:20:44 have a context where maybe they are I
1:20:46 don't know if there's a one that's done
1:20:49 this lidded or something like that but
1:20:51 we can definitely see if there's some
1:20:52 images we could we could go incorporate
1:20:55 thank you
1:20:59 [Music]
1:21:11 all right most of these pictures talked
1:21:14 about an urban or designed park area
1:21:16 they don't talk about retaining any
1:21:19 functionality or benefit of retaining
1:21:21 the natural beauty for its own sake or
1:21:23 for carbon offset or for preserving or
1:21:28 taking in pollutants I think we need to
1:21:31 talk more about how we're gonna do that
1:21:32 within the urban core areas and also
1:21:35 talk about retaining the natural beauty
1:21:37 and let's say this is why I don't see a
1:21:40 plan and I'd like to see directly the
1:21:42 parks department be responsible for more
1:21:45 than just to build areas but also those
1:21:48 tree canopy and squawk Mountain and all
1:21:51 that in this concept okay well so in is
1:21:56 and that would be within some of the the
1:21:59 green corridors and things like that to
1:22:01 make sure we're expressing that is that
1:22:05 the green areas plus it's beyond it's
1:22:08 for all of Issaquah okay they're like
1:22:10 protecting the beauty of that's Issaquah
1:22:12 helps does the parks or should the parks
1:22:13 department have some responsibility for
1:22:16 that throughout this is koala life okay
1:22:20 yeah just real quick Steve great great
1:22:23 point so one of the points I made in the
1:22:25 introduction though this exercise is
1:22:28 about central Issaquah certainly
1:22:30 something we recognized in this map
1:22:31 really is the the necklace as it
1:22:34 supports and performs and is positioned
1:22:36 for central Issaquah we recognized as we
1:22:40 are working on the park plan as we're
1:22:42 even working on this our responsibility
1:22:45 just what you're saying goes beyond
1:22:46 these borders and we really see it as a
1:22:49 connected and unified system I do know
1:22:51 that some of the groupings certainly
1:22:53 spoke and had some strong images about
1:22:56 more passive and Natural Area parks I'm
1:22:58 not sure if you had gotten to those
1:23:00 those visuals I liked 74 through 76
1:23:04 pictures but for retaining natural
1:23:06 beauty but most of them didn't seem to
1:23:09 talk about that in my opinion great
1:23:11 respect cool Thanks
1:23:18 and one other thing that I forgot to
1:23:21 mention here and that is there are a lot
1:23:23 of regional bike routes that come into
1:23:27 Issaquah because of our mountains and so
1:23:29 a lot of people like to ride the
1:23:31 mountains and I didn't see anything for
1:23:33 squawk that's a really common bike path
1:23:37 so people go up to Forest Rim up from
1:23:40 sunset and then back down to a sunset ok
1:23:45 oh I'm sorry nevermind scratch all that
1:24:03 [Music]
1:24:06 any other thoughts or comments and we
1:24:11 really appreciate you participating in
1:24:12 this and kind of excited to see what
1:24:15 what we're gonna come up and we're gonna
1:24:17 get you know some pretty good collection
1:24:20 of images and things here we will kind
1:24:23 of do a little bit to augment this with
1:24:26 some of the comments so you gave us some
1:24:28 comments with the image and things like
1:24:29 that so we can add to it so there might
1:24:30 be some other additional images kind of
1:24:32 coming in to help help really kind of
1:24:35 give it some framework and some vision
1:24:37 but what we got got tonight was great
1:24:41 it's gonna launch us into into the last
1:24:44 phase of this effort to put together a
1:24:48 cohesive vision for the green necklace I
1:24:55 think you still have meeting to do or
1:24:58 something right oh this is it ok ok
1:25:23 so I guess we're gonna go ahead and wrap
1:25:26 it up and did we have any last comments
1:25:29 from the commissioners will be wrap it
1:25:32 up okay I'm going to actually need a
1:25:35 motion to in the meeting no all right
1:25:39 we're going to end the meeting at 8:02
1:25:43 all right thank you meeting adjourned
