2:25 approved
2:28 hey brad sorry for the interruption
2:29 looks like jeremy just arrived as well
2:31 just so you know jeremy hello jeremy
2:35 jeremy we're doing roll call and
2:37 approval of minutes would you like to
2:38 join in and say yes and hello
2:48 maybe
2:52 jeremy
2:56 we're having some bandwidth issues this
2:58 evening that might be an issue for
3:00 jeremy here right now
3:11 [Music]
3:13 i can hear you jeremy all right i'm here
3:16 don't know what's going on there's
3:17 bandwidth problems yeah there is
3:20 uh you can you approve minutes
3:29 we'll go with that
3:35 okay uh we don't actually have melissa
3:37 with us tonight do we
3:40 yeah no we do not okay jennifer and i
3:43 the um i just wanted to see if there was
3:48 any emails from the public
3:50 about any comments uh i did not see any
3:54 and melissa and i
3:55 uh had a conversation late this
3:57 afternoon and
3:58 she didn't receive any either okay
4:02 and this actually is public comment
4:05 time and i'm not actually seeing anyone
4:08 from the public in our meeting
4:12 anybody see anybody outside of the board
4:18 no okay no if not we will
4:21 move on to our
4:25 regular business and primarily this
4:28 evening we only have one to
4:29 one agenda item and that's uh jeff is
4:32 going to be
4:33 talking and also maybe jennifer too
4:36 about the
4:36 2021 work plan and
4:40 we do have a little bit of a showing
4:44 here
4:44 from tim when we get a chance so go
4:49 ahead jeff you're up
4:52 sounds good thank you tim for sharing
4:54 that i think you can all see that now
4:58 well good evening everybody with city
5:01 council adopting the 2021 budget on
5:04 november 16th
5:07 brad and i and setting the agenda
5:08 thought this would be a good idea to
5:11 just have a first discussion over our
5:14 department work plan have a chance to
5:18 answer any questions you might have
5:20 and also just hear from you and get
5:22 feedback as to
5:24 what you see as priorities and
5:27 that feedback will help brad and i set
5:30 the work plan agenda
5:34 and work plan for the park board um as
5:37 we head into
5:38 into 2021 so hope you all had a
5:41 a wonderful thanksgiving holiday though
5:43 it was uh a little bit different
5:45 um um i know there's a football game
5:48 going on tonight so i understand we've
5:50 got some bandwidth issues
5:53 but i thought it'd be a good chance
5:56 despite all of that
5:58 at least have a discussion here about
6:00 the work plan tonight
6:02 so as i mentioned this council adopted
6:05 the budget
6:06 a couple weeks ago what this
6:10 represents these bulleted items
6:12 represent uh really those major items
6:15 broken down by division uh that'll be on
6:18 our work plan list for the department
6:22 these projects would represent
6:25 projects that have been approved either
6:27 as part of the capital budget
6:29 they some of them are also operating
6:34 projects that have been approved by
6:36 budget
6:37 some as well are items that are within
6:40 the city strategic plan
6:41 that we as a department are tasked with
6:44 taking lead on what you don't see on
6:47 this list
6:48 are really so much else of what we do
6:51 in terms of ongoing programs ongoing
6:54 services
6:55 that we provide either at our
6:59 facilities or how we maintain our parks
7:03 and
7:03 and field spaces uh for for
7:06 residents to enjoy these really are
7:09 those items that are going to have
7:11 a major set of tasks we'll likely have a
7:13 community touch
7:26 jeff you got frozen there for a moment
7:44 i'll mention in a couple times as i go
7:46 down the list we have three other boards
7:48 and commissions
7:49 uh that are involved with the department
7:51 too that
7:52 some of those boards and commissions
7:54 take um sort of a
7:56 lead role in some of that work so
7:58 starting with
7:59 the top and looking at our
8:02 parks administration and park planning
8:05 group
8:07 real quickly going down the list this is
8:09 an item that's a continuation from
8:11 last year we initiated a wayfinding
8:15 park and trail signage effort we're
8:18 doing this with
8:19 communications department as well as our
8:21 economic development department
8:23 what this will produce is
8:26 a plan and design
8:30 for wayfinding signage that residents
8:32 would find
8:33 on both rights of way on our trails
8:38 also more consistency in terms of park
8:41 signage
8:42 and signage within our within our park
8:44 system
8:45 we'll be completing that in 2021
8:50 next item we have two play area
8:54 playground projects the first at
8:56 hillside
8:57 neighborhood park you may be familiar
9:00 as some of the long-standing park board
9:03 members in 2014 there was some
9:05 community outreach that occurred in the
9:08 squawk
9:09 mountain neighborhood a desire and
9:11 interest to have a play area added to
9:13 that neighborhood park where there is
9:15 none also as part of the budget process
9:19 it was a high priority for council and
9:21 the mayor
9:22 to also include replacement of a play
9:25 area
9:25 at blackberry park this is the small
9:27 park that was transferred to the city
9:29 from king county
9:31 in 2017. this park is in the south cove
9:36 neighborhood so those will be
9:39 two capital projects we'll be focusing
9:43 also a continuation of our
9:46 master planning effort with our three
9:48 anchor parks
9:49 tibbetts valley park memorial park in
9:52 the issaquah creek corridor
9:56 as well as i mentioned i think at our
9:58 last meeting
9:59 we were ranked were ranked really high
10:03 with
10:03 our application to the state uh
10:05 washington wildlife recreation
10:08 program um grant application for
10:10 reimbursement for the
10:12 bergsman acquisition um this item will
10:16 now be
10:16 um that funding it will be dependent
10:19 upon the legislative process the state
10:21 legislative process next year so we'll
10:24 following along in earnest as
10:28 legislature state legislature goes
10:30 through their budget process
10:31 next winter and spring
10:35 also on our work plan is approved
10:38 capital funding for the replacement
10:40 of central park pad 3 turf
10:44 this is an aging life cycle project as
10:48 that turf is nearing the end of its
10:49 useful
10:50 useful life also on our work plan list
10:53 is some work we've
10:54 begun initiated with public works
10:58 public works um has gone through a
11:00 reorganization
11:01 and and their um operations group and
11:04 engineering group are merging
11:06 um as part of that effort through this
11:08 year we've
11:09 initiated some conversations and
11:11 collaboration with them
11:13 on such things as they're doing a
11:16 surface stormwater master plan update
11:18 we've brought them in and updated them
11:21 on the master planning work we're doing
11:22 with parks
11:24 we want to continue that collaborative
11:25 work there's a lot of
11:28 multiple benefits when you start looking
11:31 at surface and stormwater projects
11:32 needs priorities acquisition goals as
11:35 well as
11:36 goals that we have for parks within the
11:39 creek corridor and a number of
11:40 other projects so that planning analysis
11:45 and collaboration will be work that we
11:48 want to continue on
11:49 the carbon credit program this is some
11:51 work that we started this earlier this
11:53 year
11:54 before um the pandemic
11:57 we're going to be submitting what we're
12:00 calling a pilot application
12:02 um to see what we can garner from
12:07 the the carbon market uh so we as we
12:10 plant trees
12:11 uh throughout our park system uh most
12:14 recently we've planted
12:15 just under 10 000 trees through a grant
12:17 we received with king county
12:19 we would like to pilot and see um
12:24 if there's a market and and we hear that
12:26 there is a market that that
12:28 companies will be interested in
12:30 capturing and basically purchasing that
12:32 carbon from us
12:34 um so we'll be submitting that
12:36 application
12:37 um and looking at is this a model is
12:40 this something that we could replicate
12:42 given the number of trees that we plant
12:45 as we're doing
12:46 succession planting with our within our
12:49 urban forest and could this
12:50 possibly be a revenue source that could
12:53 help us
12:54 with the maintenance of ongoing
12:57 maintenance of our
12:59 urban forest within our public
13:01 properties
13:03 also on our
13:11 jeff here having some bandwidth issues
13:16 so hold your comments
13:20 hopefully we can hear you soon
13:29 i know you're all familiar with that um
13:32 we had a
13:33 really good um outreach introduction
13:36 meeting we have a number of
13:38 um very interested volunteer stewards
13:40 we'll be jumping into
13:52 i don't think jeff can hear us jennifer
13:56 jeff you're having some bandwidth issues
14:19 okay thank you for letting me know that
14:21 i apologize
14:23 everybody all right going dark
14:27 okay so um
14:31 an item that was approved in the in the
14:33 budget for next year the operating
14:35 budget for next year was bringing
14:36 on board a a park ranger this will be a
14:39 staff position that will work within
14:41 park maintenance
14:43 will serve as a
14:47 really as a steward for park users
14:50 as well as a um
14:54 a conduit with our police department um
14:58 and and work in a number of um factors
15:01 primarily within um our parks and open
15:04 space and trail system making sure that
15:06 they are
15:07 um safe safe spaces for
15:10 our our residents this is a program that
15:14 other cities
15:15 um within the puget sense area have
15:18 implemented so we'll be leaning on what
15:22 some of those other cities have learned
15:23 as we as we bring that
15:26 position on board hey jeff
15:29 sorry to interrupt but uh you were not
15:32 able to hear you when you talked about
15:33 the temporary dog park would you like to
15:36 say anything more about that uh yeah
15:39 just that yeah we'll within park
15:41 operations
15:42 uh we'll be we'll be implementing that
15:45 uh program and that program includes
15:47 um uh the opening of the first location
15:50 which is now open at pickering barn and
15:52 then transitioning that
15:54 to the two other locations as we um
15:57 identified in the the schedule that we
15:59 talked with you um
16:00 at our at our last meeting
16:04 so confluence park bridge is
16:08 as you may know there is some artwork
16:10 that's on the decking
16:12 of the bridge some of that artwork has
16:16 begun to um
16:20 i guess decay so we'll be working
16:22 closely with amy dukes and our arts
16:24 coordinator
16:26 um to get that artwork uh repaired
16:29 thankfully the decking the integrity of
16:31 the decking is not at risk in any way
16:33 shape or form we also have on our
16:38 operating life cycle resurfacing the
16:41 tennis courts at tibbetts valley park
16:43 those are those are up
16:44 for um up for research
16:59 jeff i think we lost you
17:04 can you hear me
17:14 the ongoing work as well
17:19 but also note within park operations
17:21 another item that was approved within
17:23 the
17:24 2021 budget was bringing on board a park
17:27 operations manager
17:29 as you may or may not know for the past
17:32 12 or 15 years the city has
17:36 had one manager who oversees both
17:39 facility maintenance
17:40 and park operations maintenance that's a
17:43 really really tough task and
17:46 so we will be those two
17:50 though those two groups work very
17:51 closely together and still will be
17:53 housed in the same shop space
17:56 to be able to have really that
17:58 management that skilled management
18:00 and resource management leadership
18:04 both within our parks and our facilities
18:06 will be a
18:07 a real added a real added benefit
18:11 for the maintenance of our park system
18:14 scrolling down a little bit
18:48 items um for 2021
18:52 uh and then with within recreation again
18:54 not trying to
18:55 identify every single program we're
18:57 doing but really
18:59 as we navigate covid recovery and
19:02 continue to work through modified
19:03 operations
19:05 at community center at the pool at the
19:07 pickering barn in the senior center and
19:09 with our athletic
19:10 programs we will then also be keeping an
19:13 eye on what
19:14 postcovid operations look like
19:18 and what our businesses prac business
19:19 practices look like as
19:21 as brian bernstein leads that effort
19:24 with our recreation supervisors
19:27 and then lastly and i'll just highlight
19:29 these city facilities
19:30 and facility maintenance is also housed
19:33 within
19:34 parks and community services department
19:37 rick patterson
19:38 will be overseeing this work
19:42 we will be working with city council on
19:45 looking at a number of city properties
19:47 and facilities that the city has owned
19:49 for a long time and doing an assessment
19:52 of those of those properties these are
19:54 properties that
19:57 the city does not have a direct
19:58 operation of but
20:00 trying to prioritize and get a sense of
20:04 what the priority of those buildings are
20:07 as we as we look into the future
20:10 there's some work that will be happening
20:12 within the parking lot of the police
20:13 station
20:14 um um some hvac work
20:17 within our city hall police headquarters
20:21 a new roof and hvac system are needed at
20:24 the senior center
20:25 they'll be doing that work some internal
20:28 flooring with the police department
20:31 and then as i mentioned earlier some
20:32 ongoing work with
20:34 just our facilities management plan
20:37 and again having bringing on that park
20:40 operations manager will really be
20:42 a um an operational plus not only for
20:46 park operations but for the facilities
20:48 team
20:49 as well as letting letting management
20:52 occur
20:53 with both of those very very important
20:55 pieces of infrastructure
20:57 are our square footage of our buildings
20:59 as well as our
21:01 park acres
21:04 so that was a really quick overview i
21:06 really apologize i don't know how much i
21:08 was glitching or not glitching
21:10 but i'll pause right there and see if
21:12 there's
21:13 any questions before maybe we go into
21:16 feedback
21:23 yeah you were glitching off and on jeff
21:25 but fortunately we had the um
21:28 hand out here to kind of keep us
21:31 and so we got a good idea at least
21:33 generally what's going on here this year
21:36 um and we'll talk more i'm sure in terms
21:40 of future agendas to break this down
21:42 more specifically on each one of these
21:44 items as we get closer to them
21:46 but this is just an overview for all of
21:48 next year right
21:50 yeah these again these are our major
21:52 work plan items what we'll be doing as
21:54 staff
21:55 is within the next couple of weeks i'm
21:58 taking each of these work
22:08 you lost you there jeff
22:20 well i'm kind of thinking that um
22:24 jeff doesn't know when he can't hear it
22:26 or when we can't hear him
22:27 i know i'm really really sorry um
22:30 yeah it sounds like uh comcast or any of
22:34 us that are on comcast are getting
22:35 bombarded with uh
22:37 there's a local football game that's
22:39 going on right now
22:41 bill hawks as jeremy pointed out it
22:46 seems like we're probably being punished
22:48 for
22:49 we're having this meeting during a
22:50 seahawks game
22:53 fortunately uh the seahawks uh are still
22:56 showing
22:57 even afterwards uh if you have cable
23:01 uh nfl cable can show it in its entirety
23:05 for you that want to see it
23:09 so brad if if i if i um can just
23:13 i i guess pose the question and and
23:15 again
23:16 don't know how much discussion we can
23:17 have tonight or just moving forward
23:20 um obviously not all of these are
23:23 work plan items for the park board but
23:25 uh would be very interested in getting
23:27 feedback or hearing some thoughts
23:29 or priorities park board members may
23:31 have for items of
23:34 a focus or items of interest
23:37 traditionally as you know
23:39 uh really the park admit the park
23:41 planning projects as well as some of our
23:43 park operations projects are where the
23:45 park board has spent most of their
23:47 time in focus but again just want to get
23:50 some
23:51 feedback as you and i brad start
23:53 building
23:55 the work plan for next year
23:59 has this document been sent out yet i i
24:02 don't know that i have got copy of it
24:04 if that can just get sent out to
24:06 everybody uh by email so everybody has a
24:08 copy
24:09 and we can maybe get some feedback
24:12 before our next meeting
24:14 yes i understand from melissa that it
24:16 was sent out this afternoon
24:18 okay so you should all have that okay
24:25 anybody have any suggestions
24:28 now or do you want to digest that a
24:30 little bit and get back to us
24:40 i take it you'll get back to it
24:52 so jeff i don't know if you can hear me
24:54 or not
24:56 i can okay um you have anything further
24:59 on this work plan
25:03 but no just saying we're we're going to
25:05 continue with staff to work through the
25:07 details
25:08 um and begin to build the timeline um
25:10 for each of these
25:11 uh each of these efforts so um yeah just
25:14 look forward to further discussion
25:16 um as we start building the the work
25:18 plan
25:20 for the park board next year as well
25:22 jeff do you have any idea yet at this
25:24 point
25:25 uh anything the park board will be
25:28 called upon
25:29 to do any action items within this work
25:32 plan for next year
25:33 or is it a little too soon to say about
25:35 that
25:36 uh maybe too soon but i i think
25:39 typically our capital projects um i
25:42 think you know as we do neighborhood
25:44 engagement for the hillside play area
25:48 as well as the blackberry park play area
25:50 uh i think certainly having park board
25:53 voice
25:53 and involvement and that will be most
25:56 helpful
25:57 another area that will continue to have
25:59 public engagement is with
26:01 the master planning work for tibbetts
26:03 valley park and memorial park and the
26:05 in the creek corridor
26:08 i think as we build the six-year capital
26:10 improvement plan um and program that's
26:12 something we
26:14 build straight off of the park strategic
26:16 plan um traditionally i don't know if
26:18 that's something the park board's gotten
26:19 involved in but i i think having a
26:21 chance to
26:22 um really get your input on that six
26:24 year capital improvement plan
26:26 could be very beneficial from a staff
26:30 perspective
26:31 those are some casual ideas i have okay
26:35 thanks reuben you got a question
26:42 um you're on mute i think reuben
26:46 got it the question i had is is there
26:49 any place we can go and see a little
26:50 more detail on each of these areas
26:54 or is it just a summary or is there a
26:56 place like in the budget that
26:58 a little more information under each of
26:59 the headings
27:02 um good question ruben the budget isn't
27:04 built
27:05 sort of as projects like this um i think
27:08 what your
27:09 you will see is and what i was just
27:12 touching on
27:12 is we'll we'll take this work plan and
27:16 build it out into an excel spreadsheet
27:18 and begin to identify the tasks needed
27:20 within each of these
27:21 efforts and timeline for how we're going
27:26 get that work done do you have a
27:29 specific question
27:31 well i was interested in the green
27:32 histogram program and volunteer steward
27:34 implementation
27:35 the reason i'm interested is um the
27:38 kiwanis club has re reinstituted their
27:40 environmental
27:41 committee and they would like to
27:43 participate more in projects with the
27:45 city
27:45 where you need volunteers but i can
27:47 touch base maybe with matt meckler
27:49 and get some information there on that
27:50 on how to get our
27:52 kiwanis club more involved in some of
27:54 the efforts you guys are making
27:56 yeah no that would be fantastic and and
27:59 i know
27:59 um matt and brian um have already
28:02 reached out to a couple of the koanians
28:04 uh about that very program so
28:06 absolutely great super thank you
28:11 is jennifer actually now overseeing
28:14 green issaquah
28:18 so we're going to be passing the baton
28:22 given what green is really becomes as a
28:27 an operations task that will be
28:30 something that the park operations
28:32 manager
28:32 and matt meckler will be overseeing
28:36 as it really evolves into a
28:40 volunteer volunteer program in terms of
28:43 assisting with
28:44 maintenance and restoration of our
28:48 open space areas as far as hands-on but
28:51 in terms of any
28:52 meetings or things with the community or
28:56 communication with forterra and all of
28:59 that who's taken the lead
29:01 for that so matt right
29:04 go ahead jeff yeah i was just gonna say
29:06 right now um you know i helped with the
29:08 implementation
29:09 or the writing of the 20-year guide
29:12 getting that through publication
29:14 we're starting with the training
29:15 sessions i'm helping
29:17 matt with that and trying to get him on
29:19 board and then once the full transition
29:22 over to full volunteer program
29:25 it will slowly be under matt's guidance
29:28 at that time
29:29 okay transitions on right now
29:34 and the thought there brad and everyone
29:35 else is that you know th
29:37 this this will evolve from a project to
29:41 ongoing program that supports our
29:43 maintenance efforts
29:44 and so really letting it live within our
29:47 our park operations team
29:49 we feel will be most efficient and
29:52 effective
29:56 to answer your question we are planning
29:59 our second
30:00 uh green issaquah steward uh
30:04 training and we will be getting that
30:06 information out likely it's going to
30:08 happen after the first of the year
30:10 so more information will be forthcoming
30:13 okay thanks
30:19 any other questions from the board for
30:21 jeff
30:22 on this issue
30:28 i don't know who said that
30:35 uh since i'm not seeing half the board
30:38 here pictures you might put something in
30:40 chat
30:40 if you have a question or want to make a
30:48 comment
30:53 not seeing anything
30:57 okay uh anything further on this issue
31:01 jeff
31:03 nope just thank you as in years past we
31:05 we want to make this uh
31:06 uh a habit of sharing first
31:09 just this this broad overview of our our
31:11 work plan for the upcoming year
31:13 and then as we build it into more
31:15 specific timeline
31:17 keeping you keeping you informed of the
31:20 big picture
31:20 so thanks yeah actually that timeline
31:24 document that you do is very helpful and
31:26 i assume that'll come out
31:27 what maybe in january
31:30 yes yep we're working on that's what
31:33 we're working on right now and hope to
31:34 have
31:35 um done by the the end of december so
31:38 yeah
31:38 good good
31:42 well let's wrap up the work plan here
31:44 for now and i think the next uh
31:47 items is basically reports uh jeff do
31:50 you
31:50 want a breather do you want to go ahead
31:52 if you have a report
31:54 why don't why don't you go first brad
31:56 i've got a couple items but
31:58 um i don't a chance to introduce ryan as
32:00 well
32:01 okay uh i only had a couple things
32:04 um one is uh jeff and i attended a
32:09 virtual meeting on november 12th
32:11 uh with the issaquah task force and the
32:14 mayor
32:16 uh it was primarily just kind of an
32:18 introduction
32:20 with all the boards and commissions one
32:23 thing
32:23 uh that was mentioned on there from the
32:26 city administrator was
32:28 uh looking for some feedback from the
32:31 boards and commissions
32:32 uh to get back to him by
32:35 the first or second week of january
32:39 so if anybody actually has any
32:42 recommendations that might relate to
32:45 parks and recreation that you'd like to
32:49 have those recommendations passed on to
32:52 the task force
32:53 if you could just pass those on to me at
32:56 some point before the end of december
32:58 i'd appreciate it i think for the most
33:01 part
33:02 um it's going to be the work plan
33:06 that'll probably be the majority of any
33:08 feedback that we give the task force so
33:11 that they can at least see what kind of
33:13 plans are intended by parks and rec for
33:16 next year but if there's any other
33:19 oddball things that you might
33:21 want to include or have recommended
33:23 please let me know by the end of
33:24 december
33:27 um jeff or jeff didn't attend this but i
33:30 did on november 18th i attended
33:33 the carnivores
33:36 meeting coexisting with carnivores
33:39 meeting they're wrapping up the second
33:40 year
33:41 now and this was just kind of an annual
33:43 overview
33:44 uh it was uh pretty informational uh
33:47 basically an awful lot of good
33:50 images have now been obtained and were
33:52 shared in that meeting
33:55 and are shared periodically through some
33:57 communications by the city
34:00 just to give you a little bit of a
34:01 background this
34:03 program has actually been in the school
34:05 system since 2011 with the sixth grade
34:08 and it has been running with some of the
34:11 elementary school
34:13 within issaquah here this past year as
34:15 well
34:17 this is a this is part of a larger
34:20 program
34:22 where the images are shared with the
34:24 seattle urban carnivore project
34:27 uh and are also uploaded into a national
34:31 web base called e mammal so this is
34:34 really a pretty much a national program
34:37 that you know isolates down to us here
34:40 in issaquah
34:42 [Music]
34:44 there's also something that one of the
34:46 teams put together called adventure
34:48 labs i don't know if you had a chance to
34:50 look at that or not it's a geocache
34:53 program where people can get familiar
34:56 with
34:56 various parts of town or issaquah
35:01 primarily an old town area and um
35:04 as people go to various places in town
35:07 they also
35:08 get some education on their mobile
35:11 phones
35:12 about carnivores there's also the
35:15 carnivore
35:16 spotter project which is um essentially
35:19 anybody within
35:21 puget sound can actually go in if they
35:23 have images and can actually
35:25 post them uh probably the last thing i
35:28 wanted to make mention of
35:30 one of the teams is put together yard
35:32 signs
35:34 that you'll now be seeing popping up
35:36 throughout the city
35:38 basically it's kind of the educational
35:41 signs
35:41 about how to coexist with carnivores
35:46 uh it's gonna run for about six months
35:49 uh so you'll see them probably in yards
35:52 throughout the city
35:54 they are asking for volunteers to help
35:57 steward this program
35:59 so if you are interested please get in
36:02 touch with me and then i'll come forward
36:04 you on to woodland park zoo or the
36:06 contact there for that
36:09 it's been a pretty effective program and
36:12 matt meckler has actually been the main
36:14 contact person
36:16 with the city and woodland park zoo
36:20 and the last thing i have is
36:23 really just to let everybody know that
36:26 we're not going to be having a meeting
36:28 in december
36:29 so our next meeting will be in january
36:32 and
36:33 we'll put out some additional
36:34 information
36:36 about that sometime mid-january
36:41 and that's all i have
36:45 so jeff would you like to step in with a
36:47 couple things
36:49 you bet brad thank you first yeah um we
36:52 have a youth advisory board rep i'd love
36:55 to introduce ryan uh welcome to the park
36:58 board meeting probably our glitchiest
37:00 park board meeting yet
37:01 um i think i'm freezing up again
37:08 can you guys hear me yeah yes i can hear
37:11 you
37:12 okay sorry uh ryan remy do you want to
37:15 introduce yourself let us know what
37:17 school you attend
37:19 sure yeah um so first of all i'm really
37:21 sorry if you can't see me this is only
37:23 my second time using webex
37:24 and i wouldn't let me connect to my
37:26 camera and i can't see any of you
37:28 but um anyways so i'm ryan remy i'm a
37:31 junior at liberty high school
37:33 um so i don't necessarily live in a
37:35 sequel i live out in the retina
37:36 highlands newcastle area but issaquah is
37:38 definitely a place i consider my second
37:40 home
37:41 throughout elementary school i played
37:43 soccer and basketball through the rep
37:45 programs back when there was carpeting
37:48 in the community center
37:50 i learned how to ride a bike out at
37:52 tibbetts valley park
37:55 and then in middle school i started on
37:57 the youth advisory board in sixth grade
37:59 so this is my sixth year on the board
38:02 and the youth rep opportunities was
38:04 actually one of the things that really
38:06 brought me into applying to the board
38:08 and being on it um
38:10 but when i got on it in middle school i
38:12 was like nervous about being on the park
38:14 sport or another board um
38:15 a lot of the youth reps when i was in
38:17 middle school were upperclassmen in high
38:18 school
38:19 and then i just got busy in the first
38:22 few years of high school
38:24 myself but i thought this was sort of
38:26 the perfect time to join
38:28 on the youth advisory board in middle
38:29 school i served as
38:32 a co-chair for the middle school action
38:34 committee
38:35 i'm in this year and last year i've been
38:37 serving as the community service chair
38:40 in addition to our community service
38:41 activities we do on the board i'm also
38:42 in charge of overseeing
38:44 our youth program which is another
38:45 reason of many why decide to finally
38:48 join the park board um kathy jones um
38:50 and
38:51 kept telling me that you guys had wanted
38:52 a youth rep and no one else was stepping
38:55 and so i thought that it was finally the
38:57 time to join i'm in my most recent word
38:59 of affiliation with
39:00 issaquah parks and rec would be working
39:02 as a camp counselor this past summer so
39:05 i was out at uh tibbetts creek manor
39:07 with kinder camp working as a counselor
39:09 taking my kids to tibbetts valley park
39:11 plan the playground and in the fields um
39:15 throughout the summer um so yeah i'm
39:17 really excited to be here i hope i can
39:19 provide a good youth perspective um
39:23 yeah oh thanks for that ryan
39:27 um welcome we'll make sure that uh
39:30 you're you're added to the to the park
39:31 board roster and
39:32 and distribution list um
39:36 absolutely i think your voice and
39:37 perspective will be will be very very
39:39 helpful
39:40 um to the board and and certainly us as
39:43 staff as we
39:45 tackle tackle our our work plan so
39:48 welcome aboard
39:49 thank you i agree ryan nice to meet you
39:52 even under such uh odd circumstances
39:54 but i look forward to seeing you next
39:56 time and uh
39:58 really great you greatly appreciate your
40:00 stepping forward and
40:01 being a part of the board and can
40:04 it's great to get a perspective from the
40:06 youth as well as for you to pass on
40:09 information that we share back to the
40:11 youth ward too so it's a good two-way
40:13 street so
40:14 welcome and thanks so much for being
40:16 here with us tonight
40:20 you're here a couple other items i
40:22 wanted update one uh brad thanks for
40:24 mentioning the the covid recovery task
40:27 force the mayor's recovery task force i
40:29 just wanted to
40:30 reiterate that really the focus of that
40:32 group was trying to get feedback on and
40:34 thinking of covid recovery
40:36 and as we head into 2021
40:39 what priorities we might have
40:43 as a park board for covid recovery
40:46 priorities so
40:47 thanks for highlighting that brad and
40:49 you know any feedback or thoughts that
40:51 any of you have
40:53 please get those to brad um yeah i think
40:56 it's middle of january brad that we'll
40:58 try and lend some voice there i know
41:00 marlene you've you've been an alternate
41:02 on the recovery task force as well so
41:05 thank you for lending
41:06 a park's voice throughout that
41:09 throughout that process i know i've had
41:11 the chance to attend a couple meetings
41:13 and
41:13 it's a really really good working group
41:18 and then the last item i had was just a
41:21 really quick update on the
41:22 the dog park as i mentioned earlier um
41:25 our first
41:26 um site of the dog park tour opened up
41:29 early
41:30 uh earlier in november um at pickering
41:32 barn we've gotten a lot of positive
41:36 feedback
41:36 um quite a few emails have been sent our
41:39 way
41:40 um i think jennifer we were going to
41:42 compile those
41:43 and we can add those to the minutes if
41:47 you don't mind so
41:48 you as park board members will have a
41:50 chance to see those and see that
41:51 feedback
41:52 and just know as we go through
41:56 next year we'll figure out a cadence to
42:00 keep you updated on how that
42:03 pilot project pilot program is is
42:06 working
42:09 and with that again i apologize for
42:12 the glitchy the glitchy nader nature of
42:15 the meeting
42:16 um but um if i don't have a chance to
42:19 see you
42:19 i hope you all have a terrific december
42:22 um stay safe stay well um let's get
42:25 through this
42:26 um let's get through this pandemic and
42:29 let's meet face to face again in 2021 i
42:32 would really
42:33 i would really like that
42:36 thanks for that jeff anybody else
42:39 have any new business or announcements
42:42 to make
42:46 i'm not seeing anything
42:51 or any hands raised so we're zeroing in
42:54 kind of thinking maybe comcast was one
42:56 of the issues tonight
42:58 um and they because i'm on century
43:00 lincoln haven't had much of an issue
43:02 so that could be the issue
43:05 anyways hope everyone hasn't had a nice
43:07 thanksgiving
43:08 and have yourself a great christmas and
43:11 good december
43:12 and stay safe and
43:16 that's it for now thanks every meeting
43:18 is adjourned
43:35 you
